Seat Summary
The Estimator reports directly to the Estimating Manager and is responsible for developing and tracking construction and design development costs. They have the ability to analyze construction documents and specifications in great detail in order to produce a project budget based on historical data, quotes from trade professionals and vendors, as well as buy-in from Project Managers. They will ensure that this work is carried out in a manner consistent with ABA’s core values and provides construction administration assistance throughout the duration of a project.
Accountability
Develops accurate and well-organized estimates valued between $100,000 and $5M in a timely manner by studying construction documents and identifying all associated costs for the specified scope of work
Meets with design professionals and potential clients to discuss options for proposed scope of work
Participates in site walkthroughs with subcontractors
Identifies qualified subcontractors and vendors for pricing needs
Obtains quotes from subcontractors and vendors and negotiates price
Notifies subcontractors and vendors of project status changes
Provides takeoffs for materials
Estimate ABA labor hours for construction projects
Provide written descriptions of the scope of work to be performed and coordinate language with the Planning and Design Team
Assist the Production Team with estimate support throughout a project
Coordinates the transfer of information on successful projects to the Production Team
Supports Sales in administration tasks
Update and maintain the Estimating “Cheat Sheet” for use by the Production Team
Additional Position Responsibilities
Additional tasks and responsibilities will be assigned based on the needs of the branch
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5 years working in the residential construction field or comparable experience
Previous experience estimating residential construction projects valued at $1M+
Experience with estimating software, spreadsheet design, and Gantt Chart Software
Bachelor’s degree or certificate from construction management program preferred
Ability to use CAD software or equal preferred
Maintains professional image and demonstrates integrity consistently
Strong organization skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
